Writing Goals: Essay 3 asks for your opinion on an issue. Read the provided text and prompt, and express your opinion in an argument. Provide support and examples to strengthen your argument. This is similar to what you will be doing in standardized tests such as the UC requirements, UC diagnostic essays or the GRE.
Process:
You will begin with a draft written in class. Reading material and a prompt will be provided to you on the spot.
Monday 10/24 In-Class Draft: Try your best to answer the prompt, and please also fill out the survey. Spend 5-10 minutes reading the text and prompt, 5-10 minutes planning your argument and points, and the remaining time writing your essay. Hand in your handwritten draft, completed survey and all reading material to instructor.
Wednesday 10/26 Peer Review: Exchange the handwritten draft you get back with 2 other classmates in class.
Wednesday 11/2 Final Draft: Improve your argument with more examples, support, and outside source(s). Upload to turnitin.com.
Audience:
Assume that your argument will be read by educated adults who are interested in your issue, even if they hold different opinions from you. Write with clarity and good organization, avoiding fallacies; demonstrate to readers that your opinion is valid and well supported.

Monday 10/24 In-Class Draft: Write as good a draft as you can on the spot--no specific length requirement.
